The Magpies ran out deserved winners after piling on the pressure after the interval, with Anthony Gordon tapping home Kieran Trippier's cross in the 55th minute to seal all three points.
United threatened late on, but had a goal disallowed when Harry Maguire deflected home Antony's strike from an offside position.
Newcastle leapfrogged the Red Devils in the table as they moved up to fifth, while Erik ten Hag's men dropped to seventh.
